Identical twins Julian and Adrian Riester, born seconds apart in 1919, died hours apart earlier in the week.
The two Buffalo-born brothers were co-workers in the Roman Catholic Order of Friars Minor who worked at St. Bonaventure University in Buffalo New York.
The twins were born into a family of five older sisters surprising their father who prayed for a son. The twins often joked “the Lord fooled him and sent two.”
The two were turned away from military service because of medical issues: one brother had a bad right eye and the other a bad left eye.
Friends and coworkers describe the two as “gentle souls” serving at perishes in Buffalo for 17 years and finally at St. Bonaventure seminary for 35 years (1973-2008). Their careers spanned 65 years of service as friars according to the Associated Press report.
“They had this intimate bond, in which neither was selfish at all,” their cousin, Michael Riester, told the Buffalo News.
